What is IPL Technology?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy, aka photofacial, is a mostly painless way to improve the colour and texture of your skin without surgery. It can undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure - called photoaging. You may notice it mostly on your face, neck, hands, or chest. IPL may help if you have red, brown, or splotchy skin because of a health condition. Along with pigmentation issues, IPL can also be used to effectively treat and reduce acne.

IPL Treatment For Acne

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. It causes an unpleasant appearance with the occurrence of whiteheads, blackheads or pimples. Acne can affect people of all ages.
IPL treatment is a well known and extremely effective way to treat acne, whether it's moderate or severe, IPL is almost guaranteed to help.
IPL helps to treat acne by heating your hair follicles to destroy the acne-causing bacteria on your skin. In addition to this IPL also can destroy the skin cells that cause acne's uneven pigmentation to give you brighter, more even-toned skin.
It is a very gentle and fairly pain-free treatment that takes less than an hour to carry out, allowing you to feel confident in your skin without hassle.

IPL Treatment For Pigmentation & Dark Spots

Pigmentation, age spots and freckles are typically caused by sun exposure or the natural ageing process. They can vary considerably in size, shape and depth, and be raised or flat. Pigmentation is extremely common on the face, neck, décolletage, back of the hands and body.
Like acne, IPL technology is an affective way of combatting pigmentation issues. IPL Skin Pigmentation treatments work by transmitting heat from the IPL light through to the pigmented skin areas. The IPL technology is attracted to dark pigmentation, which effectively draws the discolouration to the surface of the skin, allowing the dermis to begin the healing process of correcting the blemishes.

What Can I Expect From IPL Treatment?

Initial Consultation

In order to effectively target and personalize your treatment, we may have to give a short consultation to help draw up a plan of the most effective means of providing treatment. By doing this we will be able to have your treatment completed quicker, and to a much higher degree of quality. This is also important as it makes us aware of any issues or behaviours that may interfere with treatment.
Our consultations are free, further reducing the hassle it takes for you to achieve confidence in your own skin. To book one simply visit our contact page.

During the Treatment

The treatment itself will take between 30 minutes and an hour. This includes the preparation and necessary aftercare procedures and briefings. The preparation consists of gently cleaning the skin and then applying an ultrasound gel which is necessary for the machine to function properly. The IPL treatment itself is more or less painless, with most clients describing IPL treatment as more of a discomfort. After the IPL machine use, we will apply sunscreen to protect the newly treated skin. This is important as intense sunlight after an IPL treatment session can cause damage, drying and irritation to skin.

After the Treatment

After receiving IPL treatment it is recommended to keep out of prolonged sunlight for around 24 hours. This is because after IPL your skin will already be slightly irritated, with some slight redness and at worst soreness. This means that sun burn and irritation will be enhanced on skin that has just undergone IPL treatment. You may also notice flaking after the treatment, this is normal and should die down within a week or two.
